Celebrate El Dia De Los Muertos in Mexico, with Palace Resorts & Spa

I am reaching out to you because as you may know, one of Mexico’s most noted holidays, The Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos) is right around the corner and now is the time to experience Mexico’s incredible culture first-hand. The Day of the Dead is an ancient tradition that has been around for thousands of years and is celebrated throughout the Central and Southern regions of Mexico, where family and friends gather to pray for and remember their beloved friends and family members who have passed away.

The holiday kicks off on October 31st throughout November 2nd and Palace Resorts will host special events to commemorate the holiday. On November 2nd at The Grand at Moon Palace Cancun, celebrations will be held at “El Pueblito,”  a traditional Mexican town within the resort. The vibrantly colored town will offer various delicious authentic dishes such as pan de muerto, sugar skulls also known as calaveras and, live performances by the incredibly talented Mariachis. At Le Blanc Spa Resort Los Cabos, a special “Dia de Muertos” menu has been created at Blanc Ocean and will be available from November 1-2. The 5-course menu starts with a CEMPASÚCHIL SALAD– Marigold salad served with tangerine and tequila marinade, amaranth brittle and orange vinaigrette scented with orange blossom – Marigolds are traditionally used to decorate gravesites or “ofrendas” constructed in honor of those passed. Petals decorate the floor with beautiful tapestries that guide the spirits to the altars. It’s been said that petals were able to keep the heat of the sun, these flowers are placed on the altar to light and guide the spirits. The Second course, TAMAL NEJO WITH GREEN PIPIÁN SAUCE AND SOUR PLUMS – This corn dough tamale is cooked in hot ashes and it’s a very typical meal in the states of Mexico, Guerrero and Morelos especially on these days beyond the grave. In the northern state of Guerrero, mole verde is served with tamales filled with marigold petals. The third course CATCH OF THE DAY AND NICUATOLE– Catch of the day topped with nicuatole, a thickened corn masa pudding scented with epazote and serrano pepper served with rice and plantain Nicuatole is a corn-based drink traditionally made in the state of Oaxaca. It remains very popular on Día de Muertos altars across the community of San Agustín Yatareni on the first days of November. The fourth Course,STEAK WITH POZOL– Beef steak with cacao sauce, served with sweet potato purée, vegetables, roasted chochoyotes, corn masa dumplings cooked in beef broth reduction- Ancient Mayans buried their deceased with maize placed in their mouths, it was known as food for the journey into the otherworld. In the Yucatán peninsula, the custom is to serve chocolate or pozol in gourds. Pozol is a fermented corn dough drink placed in altars as well as other alcoholic spirits to welcome the souls of their deceased. And the fifth and final course is CHOCOLATE COFFIN, DULCE DE LECHE, TEQUILA AND GUAVA- Semi-sweet chocolate filled with tequila ganache and salt, dulce de leche mousse, candied orange and pecans, cacao crumble, corn and guava ice cream- Sweets are key elements on this celebration: candied pumpkin, sweet potato and the bread of the dead cheer up altars and the hearts of the living and the visiting souls.

 At Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancun, On November 2nd the resort will hold a special Day of the Dead event which will take place at Blanc Luna. The event will kick off with a welcome cocktail followed by a presentation of the history of the altar where pictures of deceased family members and friends are displayed. For dinner, a delicious Mexican buffet will be available with a myriad of dish options to choose from and to close off the event, a must- see show depicting the Day of the Dead.
